Tension gripped Rewari district late last night as police thwarted an armed gang’s movements through a high-stakes encounter. Two proclaimed offenders, each with a Rs 50,000 reward on their heads, were wounded and apprehended following an exchange of gunfire on a desolate highway stretch.
The action began when alert officers from the Rewari Sadar police station noticed the suspects’ motorcycle weaving erratically near Basant Vihar. A routine check turned perilous when the riders accelerated and fired warning shots into the air, sparking a pursuit that lasted over 10 kilometers.
Armed with .32 bore pistols, the fugitives—Vikram @ Vicky and Sunil—had evasion records dating back to multiple dacoities in neighboring districts. Police retaliated only after sustaining vehicle damage from the outlaws’ bullets, hitting both in non-vital areas to facilitate capture.
Post-encounter, a thorough search yielded illegal firearms, fake number plates, and incriminating documents linking them to a larger syndicate. Medical teams stabilized the duo at Rewari Civil Hospital, from where they were shifted to judicial custody after preliminary questioning.
Haryana DGP has commended the Rewari team’s tactical precision, noting it as part of an ongoing crackdown on interstate criminal networks. Community leaders in Rewari expressed relief, citing frequent night-time robberies as a growing menace. Forensic teams are analyzing the crime scene for further leads, promising more arrests soon.
