The United States has escalated its pressure on Iran and Venezuela by implementing new sanctions targeting 10 individuals and entities. Officials accuse Tehran of supplying conventional weapons to Caracas, a move described as a threat to U.S. interests throughout the Western Hemisphere, including the U.S. homeland.
According to statements from the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of the Treasury, a Venezuelan company is specifically implicated in the illicit sale of Iranian-designed combat unmanned aerial vehicles valued in the millions of dollars.
These sanctions come shortly after President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran, indicating that prohibited military activities could result in severe consequences. However, President Trump also expressed a willingness to re-engage in diplomatic talks with Tehran.
Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump acknowledged Iran’s “bad behavior” but emphasized that any confirmed violations would lead to potent repercussions. He suggested that intelligence reports indicate Iran may be searching for new locations for military operations after previous U.S. strikes destroyed existing sites.
When questioned about the possibility of direct bilateral discussions with Iran, President Trump responded affirmatively, stating his support for negotiations. He recalled urging diplomatic solutions prior to any escalation of conflict, asserting that Iran now understands the gravity of the situation.
The President reiterated that curtailing Iran’s regional influence is critical for achieving peace in the Middle East, warning that any military build-up by Iran would jeopardize regional stability.
