Giridih is buzzing with celebration following the Jharkhand government’s approval of the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) rules by the cabinet on December 23rd. Supporters of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) organized a ‘Gratitude March’ to express their thanks to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his administration. The festivities included the distribution of sweets at the JMM district office, followed by a vibrant procession with drums and banners, culminating at Tower Chowk.
District President Sanjay Singh highlighted that the Hemant Soren government has fulfilled a long-standing demand for tribal self-governance in scheduled areas, a dream realized 25 years after Jharkhand’s formation. He emphasized that the implementation of PESA will empower Gram Sabhas, giving them a decisive role in selecting and executing development projects. District Secretary Mahalal Soren underscored the protection of rights over ‘Jal, Jungle, and Zameen’ (water, forests, and land). Nunu Ram Kisku, also known as Tiger, and District Spokesperson Krishna Murari Sharma hailed the move as a historic step towards strengthening villages and the state.
