South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has broken his silence regarding a controversial comment made during the recent Test series against India, which the Proteas won 2-0. The remark, reportedly linking to Bavuma’s height, was overheard during the first Test. Indian players Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant were heard discussing an LBW appeal, with a word in their language perceived as ‘bauna’ being used. Bavuma addressed the incident in a detailed column, confirming that both Pant and Bumrah later approached him to apologize. Although the on-field exchange was handled professionally, Bavuma stated that such comments, even if apologized for, are not easily forgotten. He suggested that while there are no lingering grudges, these moments can serve as powerful motivation. “What happens on the field, stays on the field but you don’t forget what is said. You use it as fuel and motivation, but there are no grudges per se,” Bavuma explained. This indicates a mature approach, where personal drive is derived from competitive exchanges without holding onto resentment. The intensity of top-tier Test cricket was evident throughout the series, highlighting the fine line between fierce competition and respectful conduct.
