New Zealand has unveiled its squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series in India, a pivotal tour focused on acclimatizing to sub-continental conditions ahead of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The series, featuring three ODIs followed by five T20Is, offers a vital learning opportunity for the Blackcaps. Mitchell Santner will captain the T20I squad as he returns from injury, while Michael Bracewell takes the reins for the ODI team. The selections include a mix of returning senior players and promising emerging talent, with names like Jayden Lennox and Kristian Clarke earning call-ups. Key players such as Kyle Jamieson return after recovery, while Mark Chapman and Matt Henry are back for T20Is. Notably, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, and Will O’Rourke are among those rested or managing injuries to prepare for a demanding international schedule. Head coach Rob Walter emphasized the importance of this Indian tour, stating, “Playing in the sub-continent is obviously very different to what we’re used to in New Zealand, so any opportunity we can get to expose our guys to those conditions can only be a good thing, especially before a T20 World Cup in the subcontinent.” Left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox receives his first international call-up, a reward for his strong performances for the A team. The T20I side will be further strengthened by players joining after franchise commitments, aiming for a near full-strength unit before the final T20 World Cup squad selection in mid-January.
