The United Nations has expressed grave concern over the escalating violence in Bangladesh, specifically highlighting the recent lynching of a 25-year-old Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das. The UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, stated that the organization is deeply worried about the situation and stressed that all individuals, regardless of their majority status, must feel secure. The UN expects the Bangladeshi government to implement all necessary measures to guarantee the safety of its citizens. Das, a garment factory worker, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Mymensingh on blasphemy accusations, with his body subsequently set on fire. Authorities have arrested 12 individuals in connection with the brutal killing. Furthermore, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, voiced deep distress over the death of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, a prominent protest figure, who sustained fatal injuries from a shooting. Turk has urged for calm and restraint to prevent further bloodshed amidst rising tensions.
