A significant anti-Naxal operation in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district has resulted in the elimination of at least 18 Maoists. The intense gun battle occurred in the dense forests along the border of Bijapur and Dantewada districts. Security forces, engaged in a targeted anti-Naxal operation, confirmed the high casualty count among the insurgents. Among the neutralized Naxalites was Modiyam Vella, a company commander within the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), who carried an Rs 8 lakh bounty. Vella was linked to several deadly attacks, including the 2020 Minpa ambush. A substantial cache of weapons, including INSAS and AK-47 rifles, was recovered from the site. The operation, however, came at a tragic cost, with three District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel losing their lives and two others sustaining injuries. This year’s operations in Chhattisgarh have seen 275 Naxalites neutralized, with 23 security personnel martyred.
