Sacred Heart School recently hosted the third edition of its Youth Parliament, a vibrant simulation of democratic processes for students in grades 5 through 7. This initiative aimed to cultivate essential democratic values, leadership skills, critical thinking, and public speaking abilities among young minds. The event featured prominent educationist Ajay Agarwal as the chief guest.
The parliamentary session, meticulously conducted by Speaker Ambika Gulyani and Principal Secretary Humaira Ali, saw students stepping into various roles. Arnav Raj served as the Prime Minister, leading a cabinet of ministers including Pratyusha Sharma (Roads and Transport), Umme Sidra (Home Ministry), Mayank Barnwal (Health and Family Welfare), Sushmita Ranjan (Railways), Aham Barnwal (External Affairs), Shreyansh Saha (Defense), Trisha Kashyap (Education), Aparajita Singh (Environment, Forest, and Climate Change), and Zara Arman (Agriculture).
Shweta Kumari and Srishti Priya represented the ruling party as Members of Parliament. The opposition was led by Leader of Opposition Gaurav Ranjan, supported by MPs Divyanshu Bharti, Vicky Kumar, Adhya Sharma, Pragya Bharti, Rashmi Ranjan, Ashvi Singh, Aradhya Shri, Anchal Kumari, Soumya Bhadani, and Bushra Arif. Sangam Kumari assumed the role of the President. A dedicated media reporting team, comprising Avantika, Harshika Sinha, Kranti Kumar, Annu Kumari, and Ansh Krishna Pandit, provided live coverage throughout the event.
Awards were presented based on the judges’ decisions. Umme Sidra received the Best Speaker (Treasury) award, while Bushra Arif was honored as the Best Speaker (Opposition). Pratyusha Sharma won the Best Bill award, and Gaurav Ranjan received a special mention.
Chief Guest Ajay Agarwal lauded the students’ performance, noting their excellent debating skills, preparedness, confidence, and discipline as indicators of a bright future. School Principal Pramod Sharma welcomed the chief guest and delivered a thank-you speech, emphasizing that the Youth Parliament offers students a platform to understand democratic systems, express their views, and grow into responsible citizens. He highlighted the event as a significant step towards the holistic development of students. The program concluded in an atmosphere of enthusiasm, leaving a positive impact on all attendees.
