A 54-year-old patient battling diabetes and a critical heart condition has been successfully treated at Paras HEC Hospital in Ranchi. The patient arrived at the emergency room in severe distress, experiencing breathlessness, intense chest pain, and dangerously low blood pressure. Due to the critical nature of their condition, immediate ventilation and transfer to the CCU with life-support measures were initiated. A review of the patient’s medical history revealed that they had received stents in all three coronary arteries just two months prior.
However, a recent angiography exposed a dire situation: two of the previously placed stents were now 99% blocked, the third stent showed a 40-50% blockage, and a significant 60-70% blockage was identified in the Left Main Artery, the heart’s primary vessel. The patient was in a state of heart failure and cardiogenic shock, with their heart functioning at a mere 20-25% ejection fraction, making the situation extremely perilous. Immediate intervention was the only viable option to save the patient’s life.
Under the expert care of Dr. Kunwar Abhishek Arya, Consultant Cardiologist, and his dedicated team, the patient was taken to the operating theater. Utilizing advanced IVUS guidance, they performed a Left Main Bifurcation Stenting procedure, recognized as one of the most complex and high-risk interventions in cardiology. The procedure was a complete success, leading to a rapid improvement in the patient’s condition. Remarkably, the patient was discharged in just two days and, after a three-month follow-up, their ejection fraction has improved to approximately 40%, allowing them to lead a normal life.
Dr. Arya emphasized that timely decisions, cutting-edge technology, and the team’s expertise were crucial in achieving success in this high-stakes case. Dr. Nitish Kumar, Facility Director at Paras HEC Hospital, highlighted the cardiology team’s exceptional skill in managing such a critical patient, underscoring the hospital’s commitment to providing advanced and high-quality care.
