In a significant crackdown across the nation, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched major raids targeting the mastermind behind an illegal cough syrup racket. The operation, which saw ED teams simultaneously descending on multiple locations, focused on key accused Shubham Jaiswal and his associates, Alok Singh and Amit Singh. These raids were conducted in cities including Lucknow, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Jaunpur, Saharanpur, and Ranchi, signaling a broad sweep against this illicit trade. The ED’s investigation is reportedly based on over 30 First Information Reports (FIRs) registered in the past two months. These FIRs stem from alleged illegal stocking, transportation, trading, and cross-border dealings of codeine-based cough syrups across various districts in Uttar Pradesh, such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Saharanpur, and Ghaziabad. The coordinated action highlights the ED’s commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade.
