Hazaribagh Police have apprehended six individuals in connection with a high-stakes extortion case targeting a local doctor. The arrests were made by the Barkatha Police Station, which has been actively investigating the threats. Those taken into custody have been identified as Naved Khan alias Golu Khan, Salman Ansari, Abul Ansari, Afsar Ansari, Alok Kumar, and Satyam Kumar. During the operation, law enforcement recovered a locally manufactured pistol, along with eight live cartridges. A Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (registration number JH 02 AL-4873) and six mobile phones were also seized from the suspects. The operation was initiated following a complaint from a doctor who reported receiving demands for ten lakh rupees (approximately $10,000 USD) via a mobile phone on the night of October 30th. The situation escalated on November 6th when the doctor’s vehicle, parked at his residence, was fired upon. A formal case was registered at the Barkatha Police Station, and given the seriousness of the crime, a special investigation team was formed under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan and led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Barhi Sub-division. This joint team, comprising officers from Barkatha and Gorhar Police Stations, conducted raids at various locations, leading to the successful apprehension of all involved individuals. The arrested suspects have confessed to their involvement in the criminal activities. Further investigation has revealed that these same individuals may have also been involved in similar extortion attempts in the Tatijharia Police Station area, using the same mobile number for blackmail.
