US Vice President JD Vance has expressed a personal hope that his wife, Usha Vance, who was raised in a Hindu family, will eventually convert to Christianity. Vance himself converted to Catholicism in 2019, having previously identified as agnostic or atheist. Speaking at a recent event, he candidly shared his feelings when asked about his wife’s potential conversion. He affirmed his belief in the Christian gospel and stated, “Yeah, I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way.” However, Vance was quick to emphasize that faith is a deeply personal journey and that his wife has complete freedom of choice. He highlighted that their interfaith marriage thrives on mutual respect and understanding, and that differing beliefs do not cause conflict. “But if she doesn’t, then God says everybody has free will, and so that doesn’t cause a problem for me,” Vance explained. The couple has found a harmonious way to navigate their religious differences, including their decision to raise their three children as Christians. Their two eldest children attend Christian schools, and one has already completed their first communion. Usha Vance, a Yale-educated lawyer, has previously stated in interviews that she has no plans to convert but is open to discussing faith with her husband and children. The couple is committed to ensuring their children receive a Christian upbringing while acknowledging the personal nature of faith for everyone involved.
