Donald Trump is urging the Department of Justice to investigate the 2020 presidential election, labeling it the “biggest scandal in American history.” Despite widespread rejection by officials and courts, Trump has consistently maintained the election was rigged after his defeat to Joe Biden.
In recent public statements, Trump called for an end to mail-in and early voting, advocating instead for mandatory voter ID requirements to combat alleged fraud. He also voiced strong opposition to California’s Proposal 50, which seeks to redraw congressional districts, warning of its potential impact on election integrity.
“The 2020 Presidential Election, being Rigged and Stolen, is a far bigger SCANDAL,” Trump posted on social media. He expressed hope that the DOJ would pursue the matter with the “gusto” it deserves, warning that failing to address it could lead to similar issues in future elections, including the upcoming midterms.
Furthermore, Trump emphasized his stance against mail-in and early voting, advocating for stricter voter identification measures. He also raised concerns about the integrity of California’s Proposition Vote, citing concerns about millions of ballots being “shipped.”
The aftermath of the 2020 election saw Trump repeatedly assert claims of a rigged outcome. These assertions were largely dismissed by election officials and legal bodies. The controversial claims culminated in the January 6, 2021, events, where a large group of Trump supporters breached the U.S. Capitol during the congressional certification of the election results.
