A devastating fire erupted at a scrap yard in the Gola Basti area of Sonari police station, East Singhbhum, late Monday night, causing widespread panic. Flames quickly engulfed the yard, creating a scene of fear and chaos in the vicinity. Upon receiving the emergency call, six fire tenders were dispatched to the scene. After several hours of intense firefighting efforts, the blaze was finally brought under control.
Local residents suspect that the fire may have been ignited by a stray spark from fireworks. The intensity of the fire was so high that flames began to spread towards nearby houses. However, the swift response from the fire department prevented the fire from escalating further. The incident resulted in an estimated loss of over five lakh rupees in property.
Witnesses stated that had the fire engines not arrived promptly, the fire could have spread to the densely populated neighborhood, potentially leading to casualties. Local legislator Saryu Rai and his representative Neeraj Singh visited the site to assess the situation and oversee relief operations. The scrap yard owner, Surendra Gupta, reported being alerted about the fire shortly after returning home around 1:30 AM. The timely intervention, facilitated by the legislator’s office, was crucial in averting a larger disaster.
