Residents in several areas of Mango experienced a severe disruption in their drinking water supply on Sunday morning, sparking public anger during a major festival period. Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Rai immediately visited the intake well of the Mango पेयजल (drinking water) project to investigate the issue. He also inspected the water tank at Prithvi Park and dispatched aides to the water treatment plant responsible for supplying various local tanks. Following his inspection, Rai concluded that the water supply breakdown was a direct result of negligence by project officials and the operating contractor. He announced plans to file a charge sheet against the Executive Engineer of the drinking water department after the Diwali and Chhath holidays, demanding action for dereliction of duty. Furthermore, he will recommend blacklisting the Mango पेयजल project contractor. Rai discovered that the intake well was clogged with silt, indicating a lack of regular cleaning. Upon instructing the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Mango Nagar Nigam, cleaning commenced, and water flow normalized. He then proceeded to the Prithvi Park water tank, where staff reported infrequent water delivery from the treatment plant, often only 2-3 days a week, attributing it to the contractor’s actions and departmental laxity.
