In light of the growing tensions between India and the United States regarding H-1B work visas, including increased fees and potential restrictions, Germany is actively seeking skilled professionals from India. The German Ambassador to India issued a statement emphasizing the country’s stable migration policies and promising significant job opportunities for Indians in fields like IT, management, science, and technology. A post on X, accompanied by a link to explore job openings, further underscored this message. The recent developments in the U.S. include proposed changes to the H-1B program, such as a weighted selection process that favors higher-skilled and higher-paid workers, while maintaining the existing lottery system for the annual 85,000 visas. The proposed changes, initiated by President Donald Trump, also include a substantial fee for employers, though it does not apply to current H-1B holders or renewals. These proposed changes are currently under review and could be implemented for the 2026 lottery registration. The H-1B program, which offers 65,000 visas annually for specialized foreign workers and an additional 20,000 for advanced degree holders, saw similar reform attempts by Trump during his previous presidency, though they were never fully realized. This initiative by Germany comes at a time when the U.S. is tightening its immigration rules.
