A devastating cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district has resulted in the loss of at least three lives, with five individuals still unaccounted for. The natural disaster has inflicted significant damage on numerous homes. Ramban, situated approximately 136 km from Srinagar, has been experiencing intense rainfall for several days, leading to the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and impacting other critical roadways. The District Administration reported that rescue operations are ongoing. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is expected to continue over Jammu and Kashmir from August 30 to September 2. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has intensified flood relief and rescue operations in the region, deploying helicopters and transport aircraft to aid affected areas.
