The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reports a grim milestone in Himachal Pradesh, with the death toll reaching 80. A significant 52 fatalities are directly attributable to heavy rain-related incidents, including landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts. Another 28 deaths resulted from other causes, predominantly road accidents. The Mandi district bore the brunt of the devastation, recording 17 rain-related deaths, followed by Kangra with 11. The report, spanning from June 20 to July 7, also documented 28 deaths from causes such as electrocution, snake bites, and falls. The state has also reported 128 injuries, extensive damage to property, including 320 fully damaged and 38 partially damaged houses, along with the loss of over 10,000 livestock. Public infrastructure damage is estimated at Rs 69,265.60 lakh. SDMA confirmed 23 flash floods, 19 cloudbursts, and 16 landslides. Widespread damage to crops, roads, bridges, and power infrastructure has been reported. Relief efforts are underway, and the public is advised to exercise caution in vulnerable areas.
