Following the devastation caused by early monsoon rains in parts of Kullu and Mandi districts in Himachal Pradesh, relief efforts are underway. As the apple harvest season approaches, orchardists face challenges due to adverse weather conditions. Despite these concerns, experts believe transportation of the fruit to market won’t be a major hurdle. With extensive road networks, including PMGSY roads, connecting numerous villages to national highways, alternative routes are available. Rapid road clearance systems and cold storage facilities further aid farmers. While some villages still lack road access, the improved infrastructure and logistics, including the shift to smaller vehicles, are expected to facilitate the movement of apples. The increased Minimum Import Price (MIP) for apples is also expected to benefit local orchardists.
