In a significant move to bolster sports development in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is set to unveil two key initiatives. These include the establishment of a Sports University in Haldwani, with a foundation stone laying ceremony planned for Sports Day, and the opening of 23 sports academies across the state. These academies will be strategically located in eight cities, including Dehradun, Haridwar, and Haldwani, which previously hosted sports events and saw infrastructure development during the National Games. These projects aim to improve the maintenance of existing sports infrastructure and provide a strong training platform for athletes. Dhami’s administration is building on the momentum generated by the successful hosting of the National Games, where Uttarakhand athletes achieved remarkable results, securing a century of medals. The state also introduced a new sports policy in 2021, offering substantial incentives, including job opportunities and scholarships, to athletes excelling in national and international competitions, thereby fostering a positive sports environment and boosting athlete morale.
