In Munger district, Bihar, a sergeant has been arrested by the police for allegedly extorting money from constables under the guise of medical examinations. The accused sergeant is reported to have collected 2500 rupees per constable from 60 constables. Following a complaint, the SP took action. The arrested sergeant was found with 36,000 rupees in cash.
The case involves illegal extortion of 2500 rupees from newly appointed constables in Munger district, under the pretext of medical fitness. Acting on the matter, the SP immediately suspended Sergeant Sumit Kumar, who was stationed at the Police Line. SP Syed Imran Masood stated that 36,000 rupees in cash, which was illegally collected from the constables, was also recovered from Sergeant Sumit Kumar.
Sergeant Sumit Kumar was arrested after an FIR was filed at the Purabsarai police station, and he has been sent to judicial custody. The SP mentioned that he received a complaint on June 11 regarding the illegal extortion from newly appointed constables who had arrived to join the district force. The Deputy Superintendent of Police was assigned the responsibility of investigating the matter and submitting a report.
The investigation confirmed the illegal extortion under the guise of medical fitness. Sergeant Sumit Kumar, stationed at the Police Line, was found to be collecting money from the newly appointed constables. The SP revealed that 334 new constables had arrived to join the Munger district force. Out of these, the sergeant demanded 2500 rupees per constable from 60 constables, claiming they would be marked as ‘failed’ in their medical examinations unless they paid. This group included 40 female and 20 male constables.
During the investigation, it was revealed that 60 constables had already paid the sergeant. The investigating team recovered 36,000 rupees in cash from Sergeant Sumit Kumar, which was collected from the constable candidates. The SP announced the immediate suspension of Sergeant Sumit Kumar, followed by his arrest after an FIR was registered at the Purabsarai police station, and he was subsequently sent to jail.
