Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Ahmedabad plane crash, shared his terrifying experience following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Seated in seat 11-A, he found himself in a section of the aircraft that landed on the ground floor of the building it struck. After unbuckling his seatbelt, he escaped the wreckage, his left hand burned by the ensuing fire. He described the scene as filled with bodies of passengers and crew. He stated, “The portion where I was sitting landed on the ground floor, and there was some space…I don’t know how I survived.” He recalled the plane’s rapid ascent before crashing into the hostel building. The survivor expressed his disbelief at his survival, having initially believed he would perish. He recounted the initial feeling of the plane being stuck before the crash. The aircraft, an Air India flight (AI-171) bound for London Gatwick, had crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad International Airport. The crash resulted in the deaths of all 241 people on board, including 169 Indian, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian nationals. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft crashed into a resident doctors’ hostel building near the airport shortly after departing from runway 23. The flight, operated by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar, issued a Mayday call before communication was lost.
