In Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh, a man’s clothes and slippers were found near the Gangrel Dam, leading to the assumption that he had drowned. Police and divers searched the water for 12 days. However, it was later discovered that the man was hiding in Delhi. He had fabricated a story of his death and fled from the Gangrel Dam. The police have now brought the man from Delhi to Dhamtari for questioning.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he was under significant debt. Therefore, he orchestrated the drowning and death scenario. On May 24, Hemant Chandravanshi from Kawardha, Chhattisgarh, visited Dhamtari with his friends. They spent the night at a resort near the Gangrel Dam. On May 25, Hemant Chandravanshi and his friends went to the Gangrel Dam for a swim.
Hemant sent his friends to a nearby shop to buy some items. When they returned, Hemant was missing, and only his clothes and slippers were found. His friends reported the incident to the Rudri police. The police started searching for the missing Hemant, initially suspecting he had drowned and deployed divers to search the water.
The police and divers searched the water without success. Suspecting that Hemant might have faked his drowning, the police questioned his family. It was then discovered that he had another phone number. The police tracked this number, and its location was traced to Delhi. After 12 days, the police reached Delhi, found him, and brought him back to Dhamtari.
ASP Manishankar Chandra stated that Hemant Chandravanshi from Kawardha had visited the Gangrel Dam. The investigation revealed that he was burdened by heavy debt, causing him considerable distress. Consequently, he staged his death, left his belongings near the Gangrel Dam, and escaped through the jungle. This act constitutes a serious offense, and legal action will be taken against him.
