Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Cyprus and Croatia during his upcoming trip to Canada for the G7 summit, according to sources. His visit to Cyprus is viewed as a strategic gesture, particularly in light of strained relations between India and Turkey. Turkey’s support for Pakistan during India’s Operation Sindoor has led to diplomatic tensions. Modi will become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Croatia since its formation in 1991. Cyprus’s upcoming presidency of the EU Council in 2026 adds further significance to the visit. Cyprus and Turkey have a long-standing conflict rooted in ethnic, political, and territorial disputes, dating back to 1960 when Cyprus gained independence from Britain and was later divided. Cyprus had also condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, further strengthening Indo-Cypriot ties and potentially giving India influence in EU discussions.
