The state government is celebrating a rice festival from June 1st to distribute rice for the months of June, July, and August in advance. However, a sudden change in the ration distribution rules has caused problems for people. Under the new rule, ration distribution is now done only after receiving an OTP (One-Time Password) on the mobile phone, instead of using a thumb impression. Beneficiaries are receiving six OTPs on their mobile phones to receive three months’ worth of ration. This has led to beneficiaries getting tangled in the process of completing the procedure and dealing with the OTPs.
Ration is being distributed only upon providing the OTP received on the mobile phone. In such a scenario, beneficiaries who go to ration shops without a mobile phone linked to their Aadhaar card have to call home to get the OTP, and only then do they receive their ration. This is also causing delays. Due to the non-availability of ration without the OTP, people are now rushing to public service centers to link their Aadhaar numbers to their mobile phones, leading to a large crowd at these centers.
