Ashutosh Tiwari, Bastar. The second phase of voting for the village government is going on in Chhattisgarh today. Meanwhile, the core Naxal-affected area is also taking part in Jhiram, 6 km from Ellenar. The ballot is falling heavily on the bullet. There is a lot of enthusiasm in everyone from youth to old men. People’s trust in democracy is increasing. Amidst tight security, villagers are reaching out to vote by getting down from inaccessible roads.
Let me tell you, in the year 2013, there was a big Naxal incident in Jhiram, in which 33 people including Congress leaders were brutally murdered. Maoism used to panic in Jhiram. Darbha’s Jhiram village is located in Bastar and Sukma district border areas. The Election Commission has built 2 polling booths in Jhiram, where the voters of Jhiram and Elengar vote.
Fearless voting
Village government polling station number 132 and 133 have a total of 706 voters. Those who are engaged in line outside the polling station for voting since morning. To vote in this booth, the voters of Elanganar village have to travel about 6-7 kilometers. These villagers have come down from the standing hill and reached to vote. Although the government is working to build roads up to this village, but due to incomplete road for years, the villagers have to struggle a lot.
