Kolkata. Bhojpuri singer-actor Pawan Singh, BJP candidate from Asansol Lok Sabha seat of West Bengal, has finally decided to contest the elections. Pawan Singh said on microblogging site X on Wednesday, “I will contest elections to fulfill the promise made to my society, people and mother. Your blessings and cooperation are expected. Hail mother Goddess.”

Let us tell you that on March 3, citing personal reasons, singer-actor Pawan Singh had said that he would not be able to contest the general elections. BJP had fielded him from Asansol constituency of West Bengal.

After this announcement, the Bhojpuri superstar had written in his X post, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party trusted me and declared me a candidate from Asansol, but due to some reason I will not be able to contest from Asansol.

Her decision to refuse to contest the election came in the backdrop of strong criticism of her candidature by political opponents in the saffron camp, including Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress, which accused her work and songs of objectifying women.
