On the occasion of National Children’s Day, under the joint aegis of Chhattisgarh Police and UNICEF, a state level seminar on child rights was organized today. Tejkunwar Netam, chairperson of Chhattisgarh State Child Rights Protection Commission was present as the chief guest in the program. Addressing the participants from all over the state, he said that it is necessary to remove the fear of the police from the minds of the children and while registering the FIR of the cases of abuse, harassment, sexual harassment against the children, he stressed on investigating these cases expeditiously and seriously. At the same time, he said that the responsibility of protecting the rights of children is not only the moral responsibility of their parents and society but also of all government and non-government organizations working in this direction. In today’s changing environment, new challenges are emerging for the police and the face of the police should not be intimidating in the minds of the children. For the development of children, their education, health and nutrition are essential. Nowadays children have started spending most of the time in social media. Therefore, it is necessary to explain the safe use of social media among children through awareness programs. Special guest of the program, Chhattisgarh UNICEF Chief Mr. Job Zakaria said in his address that children are neither an expense nor a burden on anyone, rather they are the country’s investment, which further strengthens the country economically and socially. Also, referring to the child friendly police station operating in the state of Chhattisgarh, said that Chhattisgarh is such a state in the country, where the child friendly police station is not operated in paper but physically. Children should be attracted towards the police when the station in-charge visits the villages from time to time and the fear of the police can be reduced in their minds. Inspector General of Police, CID Shri Sushil Chandra Dwivedi said that since the formation of the state, the Chhattisgarh Police has been working with sensitivity towards child protection and there was a big change in the year 2016, when in collaboration with UNICEF, the Police Headquarters started a child protection program. A rights cell was formed and since then the police department’s partnership with UNICEF on child rights protection continues unabated. Inspector General of Police CID Dr. Sajeev Shukla expressed gratitude to the guests who attended the programme. On the inauguration of this seminar, 08 online modules jointly prepared by Chhattisgarh Police, UNICEF and CSJ on the topic of rights child protection and 02 short films filmed on the topic Child Friendly Police Station and Good Touch Bad Touch were launched and child law And the procedures manual was released by the guests on the stage. A total of 150 participants including police officers, women and child development department, health, education department officials and representatives of NGOs and students of HNLU from all over the state participated in the programme.
