The state level competition of speed reading and oral maths of primary and secondary level school children running in the country will be held in the capital Raipur on November 16. In this, 40 selected students from 5 divisions will showcase their talent. The Managing Director, Samagra Shiksha has issued guidelines to all the District Education Officers and District Mission Coordination regarding organizing the competition, saying that on November 16, the winners of the primary and middle school level at the division level in speed reading and oral mathematics will be given the state level. Be sure to bring Raipur for the competition. The selected students at district and divisional level should be of very good standard in terms of speed reading and solving oral maths questions. The names and details of the selected students from each district should be sent along with the team coming to the competition at the state level. For successful event, PMUs working in the districts should be taken for use of language, mathematics and technology and for organizing online competition. In the letter issued by the Managing Director, Samagra Shiksha, it has been said that keeping in mind the paucity of time, it will be difficult to organize these competitions at the school level. Therefore, provide opportunities to the schools to participate voluntarily in the competition. Schools where teachers work hard with their children, they feel that their children have a good hold in speed reading and oral maths, give opportunity to only those schools to participate in it. There will be no compulsion for the schools to participate in this competition, but taking advantage of this opportunity, both these competitions must be organized in all the schools also. At the block level, by inviting the names of the schools participating in the voluntarily competition and the children enrolled by them, on November 11, give an opportunity to demonstrate talent in both the competitions through online medium. The best performing child from the block should be selected for the district level. Out of the 4 students selected at the block level, two students should have speed reading and two oral maths, one at primary and one at middle school level. The competition should be organized by November 12 through their online medium. Similarly, the competition of selected students at the district level should be organized at the divisional level. The selected participants who secured first and second place in each discipline at the divisional level should be brought to participate in the state level competition. A total of four primary level including two speed reading and two oral maths out of 8 students from each division and similarly four students from middle school level should be sent to Raipur with one teacher each on November 16. Regarding organizing the competition, it has been directed that a team of experts should be formed to organize online competition at the development block, district and division level. After watching the performances of the children through this team, select the outstanding students at each level as the judges. Questions for Oral Mathematics Asking students at the elementary and math school level Keep a sufficient number of verbal questions ready in advance, commensurate with their level. By sending these questions at the state level also, inform about the questions being asked at different levels. For speed reading, availability of some unfamiliar text material should be kept at the primary level, which will have to be read online. Similarly, at the middle school level, questions should also be asked to test the understanding of children by giving them the opportunity to read some books from the series ‘Sau Din Hundred Stories’.
