Dr. Narendra Dev Verma was the dreamer of Sonha Bihan of Chhattisgarh:

Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has bowed to the famous litterateur, linguist and author of Chhattisgarh state song Dr. Narendra Dev Varma on his birth anniversary. Remembering Dr. Narendra Dev Verma, the Chief Minister said that Dr. Verma was a versatile genius. He has left his indelible mark in many roles like poet, thinker, novelist, playwright, editor and stage operator. Whatever Dr. Verma wrote, it got into the soul of the people. When his Hindi novel ‘Subah ki Talaash’, after being translated into Chhattisgarhi as ‘Sonha Bihaan’, reached among the people through theater, it instilled hope among the common people of the realization of a golden dawn. In the true sense, he was the dreamer of Sonha Bihan of Chhattisgarh. His energetic personality used to impress people in an instant. He had also deeply influenced the then Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru with his thoughts. The Chief Minister has said that Dr. Verma played an important role in maintaining and recognizing Chhattisgarhi culture and language-identity. He has given immortal composition in the form of ‘Arpa-Piri Ke Dhar, Mahanadi O immense……’, in which the splendor of Chhattisgarh Mahtari has come alive. Now this song has become the identity of Dr. Narendra Dev Verma and the value of Chhattisgarh. This song, which came out of his pen, has become the anthem of the soul of the people of Chhattisgarh from Bastar to Surguja in the form of state song. Such veneration of Chhattisgarh can only be done by his true son. Mr. Baghel said that Dr. Narendra Dev Varma did research on the topic “Development of Chhattisgarhi language and literature” and obtained PhD degree. He composed many texts like Chhattisgarhi song collection ‘Apoorva’, Hindi novel ‘Subah ki Talaash’. Live depiction of the life and culture of Chhattisgarh is found in his works. His writing ‘Mola Guru banai lete Chhattisgarhi farce’ became very popular. Shri Baghel said that his invaluable contribution towards Chhattisgarhi language will always be remembered.
