June 4, 2022 / To commemorate the completion of 75 years of independence, under the chairmanship of Union Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Smriti Irani, in a sub-zonal meeting organized in a hotel located in Serikhedi, capital Raipur, the works being conducted for women and children in Chhattisgarh. Appreciated. Union Secretary Shri Indivar Pandey informed that good work has been done in the nutrition campaign in Chhattisgarh. Sakhi Center of Raipur has also received Nari Shakti Samman. The meeting was organized to fulfill the objectives of the next 25 years under the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence being celebrated in the country. In the meeting, the work done for women and children, achievements and the upcoming action plan were discussed. In the meeting, the Women and Child Development Minister of Chhattisgarh, Mrs. Anila Bhendia demanded central assistance for construction of Anganwadi buildings, increase in honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers and model Anganwadi buildings. He explained the need for central assistance for the expansion and smooth operation of schemes and programmes. The program was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp followed by the state song ‘Arpa pari ke dhar….’ done from. Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai, MP Smt. Chhaya Verma and Chairperson of Chhattisgarh Child Protection Commission Smt. Tejkunwar Netam were also present in the meeting. Along with Chhattisgarh, public representatives of West Bengal and Odisha state, high officials and representatives of various organizations including UNICEF, beneficiaries also participated in the sub-zonal meeting. Mrs. Bhendia said that it is a matter of happiness that in Chhattisgarh we are working on the issues of women and children. But have gathered to discuss the work done so far and the strategy ahead. Our biggest concern is malnutrition. There is a need for a joint effort to reduce anemia and infant mortality among women. He informed that Chhattisgarh government is running Mukhyamantri Suposhan Yojana to reduce malnutrition and anemia. This is a unique effort of government and society partnership, due to which there has been a reduction of 4 percent in malnutrition compared to 2020. If we look at the data of Survey-5 as compared to National Family Health Survey-4, the rate of malnutrition has come down by about 5 percent. He informed that the State Government has increased the amount of assistance to be spent for the marriage of poor girl child to Rs.25 thousand per girl. More than 1 lakh girls have been married under the scheme. Mrs. Bhendia informed that 80 percent Anganwadi centers in the state are run in their own buildings. Due to lack of site and central assistance, construction of buildings in urban areas is becoming difficult. Ten thousand Anganwadi centers are being upgraded as model and nursery school centers in the state. By providing special central assistance for the upgradation of Anganwadis, more and more Anganwadi centers can be developed as Model Anganwadi Centers. He said that the state government was giving an additional honorarium of Rs 2,000 to Anganwadi workers and Rs 1,000 to helpers. In view of the rising inflation, there is a need to increase their honorarium by 50 percent. He demanded gas connection and subsidy for the provision of hot food in Anganwadi centres. He said that there is a need to revise the cost of construction of Anganwadi building. There has been no change in the cost of Anganwadi buildings to be constructed under MGNREGA and other financial instruments after 2013.
