Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has decided to use the old gunny bags of farmers for procurement in the Kharif marketing year 2020-21, in view of shortage of gunny bags for the purchase of paddy at the support price. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, today an order has been issued regarding purchase of paddy in old jute gunny bags by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection from the Ministry Mahanadi Bhavan.

As per the order, various districts of the state including Bemetra, Bijapur, Balod have been requested to use the old gunny bags available with the farmers as an alternative due to lack of old gunny bags for paddy purchase. Keeping this in mind, permission has been given to purchase paddy only in the old jute gunny bags provided by the farmer. The farmer’s sacks will be returned to the farmers after milling, when paddy is used in the purchase. Instructions have been given to the farmers to pay utility fees prescribed by the Government of India for sack use. Permission to use the gunny bags of the farmer in the district can be given by the Managing Director, Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Marketing Federation, based on the proposal received from the collector, keeping in mind the need and circumstances for the specific committees. The old gunny bags provided by the farmer for paddy purchase should be in good condition and of useful quality, in which 40 kg of paddy can be filled.
