The house-courtyard of Mr. Narhar Netam, a farmer of Bijapur, is today smelling of the scent of basmati rice. Their hard work, willpower and perseverance have been grounded by the proper coordination of other schemes of the government with the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme. Yes! it’s very true. In the district Bijapur, a major task of restoring the reservoir irrigation project was started in the financial year 2019-20 in coordination with the District Mineral Trust Fund with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Its positive results are now visible at the ground level. While on one hand this work is becoming a factor of economic progress for the farmers, on the other hand this project is proving to be a milestone in increasing the irrigation area of the district. Here we are talking about canal lining work done in Kodoli, Gram Panchayat of Bhairamgarh development block of the district. In the canal lining work (from pond no. 1 and 2) from Kodoli reservoir there is a total CC of 1,800 meters in length. The irrigation system has been restored by lining. Within a year, there are good results of these works. This project is spreading happiness in the lives of farmers like Mr. Narhar in the area. 7 acres of agricultural land of Shri Narhar Netam is adjoining this canal. He told us that this work is proving to be a boon for farmers like him. Earlier it was a crude canal. Whenever a farmer needed water, he cut the sides of the canal and irrigated his fields. Due to this, some farms near the reservoir could get water. At the same time, because of the canal being raw, bushes had grown along with silt filling in it. Due to all these reasons, the canal water could not reach the last village. Due to all these problems he and other farmer brothers like him used to be very upset. Mr. Netam further states that even in the kharif crop, a situation of quarrel among farmers was created in the kharif crop, even from the canal; But this problem has now become a thing of the past. In view of the irrigation facility after canal lining, he had sown 4 acres of Basmati and 3 acres of Maheshwari variety of paddy as kharif crop, which has now come home to ripen. This time the paddy crop has been better than the previous years. It is estimated that 50-55 quintals of Basmati and 20-25 quintals of Maheshwari have been produced.
