Under the programme, in all the 27 districts, as part of ‘National Deworming Day’ (February 8) event, the children will be administered medicines to de-worm them.

As per health department, Government of India had launched the drive to make every child in the country worm free. It is one of the largest public health programme where within a short period maximum number of children are covered.

The objective is to deworm all pre-school and school-age children between the ages of 1-19 years through the platform of schools and anganwadi centres.

Due to contamination, children are affected by different types of worms, mainly Helminths, round work, whipworm and hookworms. Generally, if children are infested with worms, then they can have anaemia, malnutrition, impaired mental and physical and cognitive            development.
