The government has decided to keep Pradhan Mantri Janhan Yojana, the world’s biggest financial inclusion plan, to continue it further and extend it towards every adult person rather than family. Along with this, the amount of OD (OD) and sum insured received in the Janhanan account has been doubled.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting held in the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi late last evening. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that this scheme was initially started in four years which ended on 14th August this year. Now this plan will continue till the next decision and when will it end, the decision will be taken later.
He said that the purpose of Jananan Yojana was to first one family account, but now Generation of accounts of all adults in every family will be opened. He said that the limit of OD will be only 5 thousand rupees on the current generation accounts, but for the new accounts it has been decided to make this limit Rs. 10,000. Simultaneously, the amount of money received under the Rupee card linked accident insurance scheme has been increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, which will be for account holders who open after 28 August 2018. Jaitley said that the World Bank has described this scheme as the world’s largest financial inclusion plan, because in the last four years, 32.41 crore accounts are open in India, but 51.50 million worldwide. He said that 53 per cent of these accounts are from rural areas and 59 per cent of bank accounts have been opened in rural and semi urban areas. So far, 83 per cent of bank accounts have been linked to the base and 24.4 crore people have rupee cards.
He said that subsidy is being paid through direct benefit transfer in 7.5 crore bank accounts. Three lakh people have utilized overdraft facility worth Rs 5000 in these accounts. 4981 families benefited from the facility of insurance of 30 thousand rupees before 31 January 2015.
A life insurance plan of one rupee month has been adopted by 13.98 million people and 19 thousand 436 claims have been disposed off. 5.47 crore people are taking advantage of the Prime Minister Jyoti Jyoti Bima Yojna. It has been paid on one lakh 10 thousand claims. 2600 crores have been paid in both these schemes.
1.11 lakh people have been involved in the Atal Pension Scheme and this plan was terminating in August 2018 but now it has been decided to continue it further. (Talks)
